Course Description
The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology is pleased to present the 2010 Anesthesiology Board Review Course. Our dedicated teaching faculty is highlighted in this course, designed to provide anesthesiologists and anesthesiologists-in-training with current and relevant information to prepare for the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) Certification and Cognitive Examination for Maintenance of Certification (MOCA) examinations.
This fifth update of the popular course offers participants the unique opportunity to review key topics in the formats of lecture sessions including questions with audience response.
This updated lecture series will be presented by clinician-educators that regularly practice and teach the content area. Each lecturer reviews sample board questions to provide practice and reinforce learning.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of the course, participants will:
- Be able to discuss relevant scientific and clinical information necessary to prepare for the American Board of Anesthesiology Certification and Recertification examinations including principles of physiology, pharmacology, and physics necessary for state-of-the-art practice
- Build core competencies in anesthesiology as outlined in the American Board of Medical Specialties Maintenance of Certification process
- Become familiar with strategies for studying for the ABA examinations and review high-yield topics in question form
- Improve their management of intraoperative events often examined by the ABA
- Be more prepared for oral examination via participation in optional practice oral board sessions
Who Should Attend
- Anesthesiologists and anesthesiologists-in-training
- Other anesthesia professionals – nurse anesthetists and anesthesia assistants
Accreditation
The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 41.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Each physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Maintenance of Certification
The curriculum is designed to match the subject matter of the specialty board requirements, including current standards of care. The program is a useful tool in aiding practitioners who now are evaluated through the American Board of Medical Specialties’ Maintenance of Certification process. Board-certified physicians must build six core competencies to qualify for quality patient care within their medical specialty: appropriate patient care, application of medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, systems-based practice for optimal care, and practice-based learning and improvement.
