This comprehensive and intensive case-based review is designed to help candidates complete preparation for the American Board of Surgery qualification certification and recertification examinations. The course will also prepare surgical residents for the senior level ABSITE examinations. The program curriculum is designed to match the requirements of the American Board of Surgery including current standards of care, as well as to prepare surgeons to understand and to respond the six competencies: medical knowledge, patient care, communication skills, practice-based learning, systems-based practice, and professionalism. In addition to discussing the six competencies, the course focuses on ethical and legal issues such as do-not-resuscitate orders, operative consent problems, end-of-life and other ethical issues which have been subjects of recent questions. The expert faculty comprehensively updates the current state of the art in their respective fields. |

The New York General Surgery Board Review course is a comprehensive and
intensive case-based review that is designed to help candidates complete
preparation for the American Board of Surgery Qualifying, Certifying and
Recertification Examinations. It also prepares surgical residents for the senior
level ABSITE Examinations.
The curriculum is designed to match the subject matter of the specialty board
requirements, including current standards of care. The program is a useful tool
in aiding practitioners who now are evaluated through the American Board of
Medical Specialties’ Maintenance of Certification process. Board-certified
physicians must build six core competencies to qualify for quality patient care
within their medical specialty: appropriate patient care, application of medical
knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, systemsbased
practice for optimal care, and practice-based learning and improvement.
The program combines didactic lectures, cased-based presentations, questionand-
answer sessions, and meet-the-professor discussions, providing a
comprehensive review of the practice of general surgery. An illustrative and
