Pittsburgh Breast Imaging

Allegheny General Hospital
The Pittsburgh Breast Imaging program is for radiologists, radiologists-in training, mammography technologists and ultrasound technologists who have an interest in breast ultrasound. The program is designed to provide an update in breast imaging techniques, including routine mammography, breast ultrasound, and MRI of the breast. Physicians and technologists are offered lectures designed for their special needs.

The program focuses on breast intervention, MRI of the breast, MRI biopsy techniques, and digital mammography. Opportunity is given to earn CME credit toward the requirements for digital mammography, MRI and ACR accreditation in stereotactic and ultrasound procedures.

Learning Objectives


After viewing this program, participants will be able to:

  • Increase the confidence of differentiating benign from malignant breast lesions
  • Explore the use of digital imaging
  • Examine multiple percutaneous biopsy techniques including stereotactic guided, ultrasound guided, and MRI guided biopsies
  • Evaluate multiple biopsy devices
  • Provide an overview of pathological findings in breast disease
  • Explore the role of the radiologist and breast surgeon in the workup of breast disease
  • Review the process for stereotactic and ultrasound accreditation
  • Become familiar with the genetics of breast cancer

Credit Designation


Allegheny General Hospital designates this educational activity for a maximum of 19 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Note: All credit hours are applicable towards fulfillment of MQSA mammography continuing medical education requirements: Digital Mammography: Up to 2.25 credits total. Mammography: Up to 19 credits total. ACR Stereotactic Breast Biopsy: Up to 1.5 credits total. ACR Breast Ultrasound: Up to 5.25 credits total.

Release date: September 1, 2007 Credits expire: September 1, 2010

CME credit is obtained upon successful completion of a program evaluation. A $30 processing fee must accompany the completed evaluation.
