Course Summary


LSU's Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Review Course emphasizes critical areas of surgery with scientific support and prepares surgeons and residents for specialty examinations. All lectures stress the techniques used and the scientific justifications for those techniques. This educational activity was developed based on previous course evaluations, input from course leadership, advisory committee input, and a review of current issues and topics in the fields of oral and maxillofacial surgery and cosmetic maxillofacial surgery.

Course Objectives


After viewing this course, participants should be able to identify, define, understand, and discuss the following areas of OMS and cosmetic maxillofacial surgery: preprosthetic surgery; dental implants; distraction osteogenesis principles; the medial risk patient; TMJ; mandibular and maxillary fractures; facial skin rejuvenation; dentofacial deformities; oral and maxillofacial infectious diseases; dentoalveolar surgery; maxillary and mandibular reconstruction; blepharoplasty and upper and lower facial rejuvenation; rhinoplasty and otoplasty; the trauma patient; soft tissue injuries; obstructive sleep apnea; craniofacial syndromes; anesthesia; orthognathic/cosmetic surgery; the cleft lip and palate patient; and oral, head and neck pathology.
 
 

CDE Credit


CDE credit awarded for participation in LSU’s OMS Review Course may not apply toward license renewal in all states or meet the requirements of other governing bodies. It is the responsibility of each oral surgeon to verify the requirements of his or her state or governmental licensing board. LSU Continuing Dental Education is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education.
