Abdominal & Pelvic Imaging: CT/MR/US

UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging

The UCSF Abdominal & Pelvic Imaging: CT/MR/US activity main goal is to improve daily clinical practice and patient care by describing the use of state-of-the-art equipment for the assessment of high-yield diseases. The program provides an update of the latest technologies which include how to implement faster sequences, improve resolution, utilize contrast agents and apply new protocols. The activity covers the indications for each modality, current imaging protocols, and potential pitfalls for misinterpretation of image findings. The risks related to the use of radiation in diagnostic radiology and offering tips to reduce radiation dosage are also presented.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  • Identify indications for the use of the different imaging modalities (CT/MR/US) for various abdomino-pelvic organs and conditions
  • Implement practical procedures and technical tips for optimal image quality
  • Better differentiate between the anatomy/ pathology of both benign and malignant diseases
  • Recognize uncommon presentations of common diseases
  • Anticipate potential pitfalls and limitations of the different imaging modalities
  • Use protocols to decrease imaging time and minimize patient radiation exposure
